Carrier Tracking: the outside carrier’s truck on your board.

Carrier Tracking brings project44 and Descartes MacroPoint positions for the loads you broker to outside carriers into Fleet Manager and Logistics Manager. Once a carrier is set up, each of its contracts is tracked automatically, and nobody opens a separate tracking portal.

✓An add-on module, available on Fleet Manager Standard, Fleet Manager Enterprise and Logistics Manager.

[ How it works ]

From outside carrier to your TMS without a check call.

The carrier’s truck reports to project44 or Descartes MacroPoint. The position comes back to the contract in TransPlus, where your team already works.

  1. Set up the carrier once.
Each carrier is set up with its tracking network one time. For project44, that means its SCAC, DOT or MC number.
  2. Contracts track automatically.
Each contract for that carrier is tracked automatically. With project44, tracking starts at the pickup time, or earlier if you set a lead time.
  3. Positions land on the contract.
The truck’s positions come back to the contract, and with project44 you can open them on a map in the contract’s position history.
  4. Your customer gets an answer.
Dispatch sees where the brokered load is and answers the customer without calling the carrier or logging into another portal.
[ What moves ]

The carrier runs the load. Your team sees where it is.

What is the difference between Carrier Tracking and Freight Tracking?

Carrier Tracking brings positions for loads you broker to outside carriers into TransPlus. Freight Tracking works the other way: it sends your own trip events out to your shipper’s tracking network.

Which tracking networks does Carrier Tracking use?

project44 and Descartes MacroPoint. Positions and events from either network come back to the contract in Fleet Manager or Logistics Manager.

Do I have to start tracking on every load?

No. Once a carrier is set up with its tracking network, each of its contracts is tracked automatically. With project44, the carrier is set up with an identifier such as a SCAC, DOT or MC number, each contract needs the driver’s phone number or the truck’s unit or plate number, and tracking starts at the pickup time, or earlier if you set a lead time.

Where do I see the carrier’s position?

On the contract. With project44, you can open the contract’s position history to see the truck’s positions on a map, open its shipment history for event types and the latest status, and choose to update the contract’s event dates from the tracking updates.

How does the network find the carrier’s truck?

project44 can track by the driver’s phone number, the truck number or the license plate. Descartes MacroPoint tracks through ELD connections and its driver app.

Is Carrier Tracking included in my plan?

No. Carrier Tracking is an add-on module you purchase, available on Fleet Manager Standard, Fleet Manager Enterprise and Logistics Manager.
