From order to surcharge without a lookup.

The module reads the order and applies the Breakthrough Fuel rate on the customer or carrier profile, using miles from your mileage software. The surcharge lands on the invoice or settlement without a lookup.

Build the order.
Origin, destination and date go on the order as it is built.
Calculate the miles.
Your mileage software calculates the order and contract miles for the surcharge estimate.
Apply the rate.
The Breakthrough Fuel rate on the customer or carrier profile is applied to those miles.
Post the surcharge.
The surcharge writes to the invoice or settlement, estimated and actualized for brokered loads.

Yes. When freight is brokered, the Breakthrough Fuel module estimates the fuel surcharge first and then actualizes what is paid to the carrier.

Breakthrough Fuel uses PC*Miler by Trimble to calculate order and contract miles. Those miles set the fuel surcharge estimate for every order.

How does Breakthrough Fuel pricing compare to the DOE weekly index?

Breakthrough Fuel replaces the DOE weekly index with lane-level, same-day fuel prices. Carriers are reimbursed for what fuel cost on that lane that day, and shippers pay no more than that.

Can Breakthrough Fuel support a zero-base rate strategy?

Yes. Breakthrough Fuel separates fuel costs from linehaul rates, which lets carriers move to a zero-base rate strategy with operating costs isolated.
