Liberty Linehaul has worked hard to be Canada’s elite fleet in North America, providing LTL and truckload service across Canada and the U.S.

Offering local distribution throughout Southern California and operating warehouses in Ontario, Canada and California, Liberty provides transport solutions, air-ride logistics and blanket wrap services for trade shows and household goods. They are also equipped to handle more challenging freight that carry a greater level of risk and exposure, including executive house moves. In their years in operation they have established an effective business model for delivery appointments of LTL freight.

In Search for a New TMS

Keeping up with technology is a key component to how Liberty Linehaul is able to deliver a diverse range of services while operating two terminals in two different countries.

Liberty Linehaul relied heavily on their previous Transport Management System (TMS) before making the switch to Trans Plus. Although it met their needs for several years, the developer was phasing out support and sunsetting the product, leaving Liberty with no choice but to start the search for a new solution – a challenging goal given that their previous system was embedded into their business after years of use. Ultimately, what they needed was a system that was up-to-date and able to integrate with the industry’s ever-changing technological landscape, for a price that was close to what they had already been paying.

Liberty’s senior team embarked on a review of their existing TMS and engaged with every level of their business to understand what functionality was required in a new system – factoring in features that were considered ‘must-haves’ and those that would be ‘nice-to-have’. Once they understood their business’ needs they turned to the market to see what alternatives existed that would give them the functionality they needed for a comparable price to their old TMS.


They reduced their lengthy list of 10 to 15 vendors down to a shortlist of only three. Out of those remaining contenders they determined that Trans Plus was the best fit for their business. Their final decision was based on outstanding references from other operators and live demonstrations of the Trans Plus TMS, Fleet Manager Professional, that allowed them to see how their core functionality needs would be handled in the new Transportation Management System.

Implementing Fleet Manager Professional has resulted in significant improvements in both their operations and their management activities, giving their team a holistic view of their two separate warehouses through a single-source database. This access to real-time information has provided them with the ability to proactively manage their fleet – they can see the status of their orders, the location of their drivers, their trips and their equipment all inside one system.

Through a single screen, information can be passed through to other systems such as telematics and accounting, ensuring that the TMS can scale easily to meet the demands of a growing business. Even Human Resources can benefit through the use of Document Imaging, a feature that can be used to associate documents required for border crossing with the driver’s profile in Fleet Manager.


Trans Plus’ TMS means that work will be completed more efficiently in the back office, resulting in time and cost savings and reducing the workload being placed on the driver. Eliminating these cumbersome administrative activities has given their staff room to grow and become stronger, more empowered employees.
